Why We Do What We Do!!!

When it comes to what my husband and I do and how we live, many people have the mistaken belief that we live in a bubble, that we are just “lucky” or that living the 5 Essentials just comes easy for us.  None of the above are true.  To get to the point we are at now has been a journey that is still unfolding.   None of it happened overnight and we are still nowhere close to perfect.  However, we are constantly trying to improve ourselves to attain a truly maximized life. 

 

When it comes to our kids, we try to pour the 5 Essentials into them.  They have never had a single medication, never had an ear infection, never had strep throat, allergies, or anything other than a ‘bug’.  What many people would consider “luck” is instead, the result of hard work, discipline, commitment, and adherence to the natural order of things.  I am envious that they have this great foundation that I didn’t start to build until well into my 20’s.  This leads me to the crux of why we do what we do.

 

We do not live in a bubble and we are just as susceptible to the consequences that come from straying away from the 5 Essentials.  My husband’s father passed away in his early 50’s (as did every other male in his family tree- ON BOTH SIDES) of kidney disease.  He was a smoker, drank a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi every single day, and was a meat and potatoes- hold the vegetables kind of guy.  In his last decade of life, he went from a 6’2”, 240 pound strapping Marine to a sickly man aged much beyond his years.  My husband refuses to carry on the tradition of dying in his early 50’s, refuses to put my children through the loss of a parent at such a young age, and to instead live a vibrant, happy life well past his 100’s.  My mother, at the age of 64 years young, has full blown Alzheimer’s disease.  I cannot express in words what an awful, devastating, cruel disease this is.  It has forever changed my family and I, like my husband, refuse to go down the same path!  I wish that my mother had been taught the 5 Essentials 30+ years ago.  I know in my heart that she would be in a different place right now.  What if she had her nervous system checked when she was young instead of when she was 55 years old when it showed massive nerve interference?  What if she knew about real nutrition instead of adopting the Betty Crocker (the Godmother of processed food) nutrition plan?  What if she exercised regularly?  What if she avoided toxins that are known to eat away at brain tissue like mercury from dental fillings (which she had many of)?  I KNOW things would be different!  I am fully committed to aligning myself with the 5 Essentials so that I don’t end up with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s at an early age and so that my children are not robbed of their mother in such a horrible way like I have been. 

 

Not only do we want to save ourselves, we are on a mission to share these principles with as many people as possible.   We don’t want to see this happen to anyone.  This is all in an effort to help people avoid the suffering that our families, and most other American families have to endure.   This is our BIG WHY!  What are you doing each and every day to make sure you will live to your full potential? 

 

Take this quick self assessment every night before you go to bed:

 

Did I seek to improve the relationships that are most important to me today?

Did I maximize my mind by reducing stress, creating peace,  and avoiding negativity?

Did I refocus on my BIG WHYs?

Did I ensure my nervous system is functioning properly by getting adjusted, doing my spinal care exercises, good posture, and sleeping on my back or side?

Did I eat foods that were designed to nourish my body and avoid processed, man-made foods?

Did I exercise today?

Did I do my best to avoid toxins like conventional household cleaning products, Teflon, personal care products, tap water, pesticides, additives/preservatives, heavy metals, etc?

Taking care of your health is not a one step process. Being committed to your spinal and nervous system health is vital for your life. But every time you put a food in your mouth you are either strengthening or weakening your immune system and health. The statistics show that disease is at an all time high. The sad truth is that the CDC just announced that  Nearly half of all American adults have either high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes, each a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular problems. “

What's even more alarming is that "15 percent of the population is unaware that they have one or more of these conditions," said survey author Cheryl D. Fryar, a health statistician with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Virtually all degenerative diseases; cancer, heart disease, arthritis, kidney and gallstones, osteoporosis and tooth decay are associated with excess acidity in the body. The issues don’t stop there. When the body’s fluid becomes acidic it inhibits proper oxygen utilization. This acidification can lead to allergies, blood pressure abnormalities, depression, digestive problems, headaches, fungal problems, insomnia, lack of energy, skin problems, stiffness, stress and tension, and weight issues.

            A simple way to prevent disease and these myriad of problems is to follow the principles of health. The body’s optimal pH balance is slightly alkaline at 7.35. The foods we eat can either alkalize or acidify our bodies. For example a can of soda has a very acidic pH of 2.5. Acids are harmful to our bodies because bacteria, viruses, and tumors thrive on the sugar or acid environment. Conversely bacteria and viruses cannot live in an alkaline environment. As early as 1930 researcher Otto Warburg found that one of the most universal properties of malignant tumors is their acidic environment. http://www.onco-tools.com

 

Therefore SOLUTION to disease is to take ACTION with your mouth, don’t feed disease! The following foods are alkalizing. When eaten they will create a healthy functioning, disease preventing environment in your body! Use these foods in your favorite recipes or create new recipes from your favorites in the Nutrition book.

 

Veggies: Cauliflower, cabbage, onions, snaps peas, celery, Swiss chard, eggplant, lettuce.

Fruits: All berries, green apples, avocado, tomato.

Almonds, Coconut, Raw sunflower seeds, Green tea, Alkaline water, Probiotics.

Before you go back to school...


The summer flew by so quickly!  Now it's time to buckle down and get serious.  It's vital that we protect our childrens spines.  Heavy backpacks filled with all their school supplies and books can have a detrimental effect on their spines. 

According to a recent study in the journal Spine, greater disc compression and increased spinal curvature occurs in children that wear heavier backpacks.  Researchers conducted a study using MRI scans of the lumbars to determine what happens to a child's spine when they wear a backpack.  Eight children were studied.  Their average age was eleven years old. They first wore an empty backpack and then the weight was gradually increased from 9 to 18 then to 26 pounds.

The study found decreases in the disc height due to the compression of the backpack and curvature of the lumbar spine to the left or right when the children wore the heavier backpacks.  As you know, the spine should be straight from the front in order for there to be no interference from the spine to the organs.  A significant curve was seen in the children who wore the 18 pound backpack.  Additionally the children who wore the 26 pound backpack had back pain of a 5 on a 10 point scale.  For optimal spinal health, the American Chiropractic Association recommends a backpack that is 5-10% of your child's weight.

The back will compensate for any load applied to it for an extended period of time.  A heavy weight carried in backpacks can:
  • cause a person to lean forward, reducing balance and making it easier to fall.
  • Distort the natural curves in the middle and lower back, causing muscle strain, irritation to the spine joints and the rib cage.  This can cause strain in the neck, mid and lower back causing subluxations and possible symptoms like pain or headaches.  
  • Causes rounding of the shoulders which decreases the curve in theneck and affects the nerves going to the organs including the heart and lungs.
Look for backpack design features that help support the back.
  • Lightweight material
  • Two padded, wide (2-inches), adjustable shoulder straps on the backpack
  • Padded back
  • Individualized compartments
  • Hip strap, waist belt or frame to redistribute the weight of the backpack from the shoulders and back to the pelvis
  • Wheels so that the backpack can be pulled rather than carried.
Teach your child how to properly load and wear the backpack
  • Always use both shoulder straps and wear the backpack on the back rather than over one shoulder.
  • Pack heaviest objects into the backpack first so they are carried lower and closer to the body.
  • Fill compartments so that the load is evenly distributed throughout the backpack and items do not shift during movement.  Teach your child to clean out the backpack daily and weekly.
  • Pack sharp or bulky objects in the backpack so they do not contact the back
  • Adjust the straps to fit the backpack snugly to the child's body, holding the bottom of the backpack 2 inches above the waist and keeping the top just below the base of the skill; do not carry the backpack low near the buttocks.
  • Lift the backpack by using the leg muscles and keeping it close to the body, not by bending over with arms extended.
  • Do not lean forward when walking; if this is necessary, there is too much weight in the backpack.

Nearly everybody recognizes the importance of exercising regularly.  Most people, however, are motivated to exercise so that they will look better.  What many people do not recognize is that exercising regularly provides a host of benefits that will not only make you look better but make you feel better as well.  This is not to say that regular exercise will not make you look better because it definitely will.  Rather, by participating in a regular exercise regimen you will begin experiencing rewards you never thought possible.  Maximized Living Doctor Fred Roberto explains to you what you may expect from incorporating an exercise program into your daily life.

First of all, if you find the right type of exercise for you, it becomes something you enjoy to do.  Granted, the first week or two may be difficult to adjust to but once your body adjusts to the work out it will come to thrive off of its regular intake of physical activity.  So by finding something you enjoy – whether it is weight training or cardiovascular exercise of some sort – you can find an exercise that becomes more of a hobby than a chore.
